We’re incredibly proud to share that Atlantic Futures entrepreneur Lisa McLaughlin, founder of clúmh, was one of just four finalists selected to pitch at this year’s Belfast Telegraph Business Awards in partnership with Ulster Bank.

Lisa is one of three innovators currently participating in Atlantic Futures’ Embedded Entrepreneurs programme, a pioneering two-year residency delivered in partnership with AwakenHub . The programme supports women-led businesses by embedding founders within academic ecosystems to accelerate their ventures through research, mentorship, and cross-border collaboration.

It all started with a last-minute decision after Lisa spotted a LinkedIn post from John Ferris at Ulster Bank, reminding followers it was the final day to enter the pitch competition. Seizing the opportunity, she recorded a one-minute pitch and submitted it just before leaving. By Monday, she learnt she was a finalist.

She travelled to Belfast that Friday to film her official pitch video, which played as she walked onto the stage in front of over 550 members of Northern Ireland’s business community. Representing clúmh and her flagship innovation Felture® — a sustainable felt fabric made from discarded industrial tumble dryer lint.

“I was absolutely delighted for clúmh to be one of just four businesses shortlisted to pitch in front of such a brilliant and inspiring audience. It was an honour to share the stage with so many innovative and forward-thinking entrepreneurs — the energy in the room was just electric.”

Designed for the architecture, construction and design industries, Felture® transforms waste into sustainable materials, with applications in acoustic, insulation and soundproofing.  It is a fantastic product and we are delighted that others are already seeing the potential in Lisa's innovation so early in her journey to success.

Lisa was joined on the night by Clare McGee, co-founder of AwakenHub, a vital partner in the Embedded Entrepreneurs programme and a passionate advocate for women founders across the island of Ireland.

“Even though I didn’t win, the feedback was incredible. People were intrigued, supportive, and genuinely excited by the concept.  I made some great connections and was interviewed the next morning by the Belfast Telegraph’s business team!”

Lisa’s journey is a testament to the power of bold thinking and fast action — exactly the kind of innovation we love to see at Atlantic Futures.

Well done Lisa!
